[ARCHIVED] Rate Study

Sandy Suburban Improvement District has one of the lowest sewer rates in Utah and the lowest on the Wasatch Front.

In March, 2024, the Wasatch Front Water Quality Council, together with the Central and South Davis Sewer Districts, published the Utah Sewer Rates Study.  The results of the study show that our District has the lowest sewer rates along the Wasatch Front, and the second lowest in the State of Utah.  The complete study is available on our website at www.sandysid.com.

SSID residents are fortunate to enjoy the lowest rates on the Wasatch front.  This is a result of the diligent efforts of the District to maintain our lines and mitigate issues that increase costs.

For example, our costs to have the wastewater treated at the South Valley Water Reclamation Facility (SVWRF) make up the bulk of our expenses and thus our rates.  One of the biggest causes of high costs to treat wastewater is water infiltration.  When groundwater is allowed to seep into the sewer lines, we pay the SVWRF to treat that extra water, which can become a significant amount as lines deteriorate over time.

We have aggressively fought infiltration by completing numerous lining projects throughout the District to seal out groundwater from entering our system.  We also started a lateral repair program to address faulty residential laterals which also contribute to the infiltration problem.  Through these efforts, we have kept our treatment costs down and have thus been able to keep our sewer and property tax rates down.
